Australian designs and fashion have emerged to become highly desired in the UK and also across Europe. As a sign of further bolstering its position were three events that were scheduled to be held in London during the last week of September 2007. The three events highlighted the strengths of Australian fashion and designs.
The first event was the launch of the exhibition ‘Fleece to Fashion’ on September 25, 2007. The ‘Fleece to Fashion’ exhibition, launched by the Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), was aimed at celebrating the completion of 200 years of export of Australian wool to London. The exhibition will display a wide range of classic wool-based fashion pieces ranging from those from Savile Row suits to the Christian Dior day dress of the 1950s. The ‘Fleece to Fashion’ will also feature wool-based fashion products from the stable of designers such as Julien Macdonald, Tina Kalivas, Gaultier, and Chanel.
The second event is the re-launch of the nightclub Madame Jo Jo’s on September 26, 2007, with a completely new look to its interiors. Madame Jo Jo’s interiors will sport a unique wallpaper from the collection of the late Florence Broadhurst, who was a major Australian designer.
The third event is the opening of the fashion-lifestyle brand Playboy’s flagship store in London. The store will feature designs and fashions of Melbourne’s Global Designer Brands.
Kylie Hargreaves, the London-based Senior Trade Commissioner of Austrade said that the success of Australian fashion coupled with the invigorated design presence was adding sophistication to the brand value of Australia in the UK.
According to the Anholt GMI Country Brands Index, Australia features as the highest ranking nation brand. These events are expected to provide a better understanding of Australian style to important decision makers in the UK fashion world.
