Professor Michael Sherris receives Actuary of the Year 2007 award
The Institute of Actuaries of Australia presented the Actuary of the Year 2007 award to Professor Michael Sherris at the Biennial Convention 2007 ‘Adventures in Risk’ in New Zealand. The award is given by the Institute Council for members who bring credit to the actuarial profession, and make significant contribution to the development of actuarial science.
Professor Sherris has been recognised for his contribution to actuarial education and to the development of actuarial science. He has developed a successful actuarial program at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and developed and implemented a CO-OP program that links employers and graduates.
His research extends to:
- The application of financial economic theory to insurance and superannuation risk management, pricing and risk modelling;
- Interest rate modelling and risk management;
- Electricity price modelling and risk management; and
- Quantitative risk management and risk models.
Professor Sherris has received several awards including the Geneva Association/International Insurance Society Research Award for 2007.
Professor Sherris is a Vice President of the Asia Pacific Risk and Insurance Association and a Board and Executive Member of the Enterprise Risk Management Institute International.
